added custom header banner 1040×120 but doesn’t span the full screen width?

hi everyone,
my header banner size is 1040 x 120
my website width is 1040 (as per the appearance/customize/Design tab)
but when i upload the banner via iFeature custom logo upload section it doesnt cover the width of my screen. And it doesn’t look its original size.
How can i change this? Edit code in Fubtions.php or header.php?
I have tried this but i can’t locate any code relating to custom logo size or header size etc
