Ok I've searched this topic as well and cant seem to find the solution that would work for me.
I am building a website and don't need any comments functionality on the site whatsoever. I've gone into the dashboard settings for Discussion, and turned off Comments functionality. But I still see the big Leave A Reply on my home page:

In my child theme I also have the following line (as recommended in a previous post):
/* LAYOUT: remove comments */
.comments-link { display: none; }Doesn't seem to turn it off though.
